Macho Choir website
Raising our voices against catcalling
Digital/Online
Client: Philippine Commission on Women
On the streets of the Philippines, catcalling is a common problem. Outside, approximately 58 percent of harassment occurs, with 70 percent occurring in broad daylight. Macho Choir debuted with three radio spots based on nursery rhymes that included anti-catcalling lyrics that were updated.
What is the significance of nursery rhymes? To drive home the point that catcalling is a childish and immature behavior. The radio commercials were broadcast on 722 stations across the country with the help of the KBP and SBP. It was complemented by this fantastic website to educate and advocate against this act of sexual harassment.
Our collective outcry against catcalling and sexual harassment was heard, and action was taken – Senate Bill 1326, also known as the Safe Streets and Public Spaces Act, was signed into law. Catcalling, as well as other forms of sexual harassment, is now illegal.
